Rene Garcia had four hits and four RBI, and Lexington escaped a bases-loaded no-out situation in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Hickory Crawdads 7-5 Saturday night in Hickory, N.C.
Legends closer Kirk Clark gave up a single to Edwin Garcia, walked Michael Ortiz and hit pinch hitter Travis Adair to load the bases with none out in the ninth.
Leury Garcia lifted a fly ball to short left field, but Jake Goebbert made a diving catch near the foul line, and the runners held. Clark then struck out Jared Prince and Miguel Velazquez to end the game.
Luis Cruz (1-0), making his first start for the Legends, allowed three hits and two runs in five innings.
Aaron Bray went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI for the Legends.
LCA's Ross to pitch today
Former Lexington Christian Academy standout Robbie Ross is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Legends.
Ross, in his second year of pro baseball, is 7-4 with a 1.96 ERA. He hasn't allowed a home run in his 11 starts.
