The Lexington Legends exploded for six runs on six hits in the sixth inning and beat the host Lakewood BlueClaws 10-3 Wednesday night.
After Lakewood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Legends went in front for good on a two-run homer by Jake Goebbert in the second.
Lexington got another run in the second on two errors, a base hit by Rene Garcia and an RBI single by Jose Altuve.
The Legends sent 12 men to the plate in the sixth. A walk to Jonathan Meyer, a base hit by Garcia and a bunt single by Grant Hogue loaded the bases. A run scored on Altuve's infield out, another came home on a double by Jiovanni Mier, and J.D. Martinez singled in two runs to give Lexington a 7-2 lead. Kody Hinze singled, moving Martinez to second. Both advanced on a wild pitch, and Meyer, on his second at-bat of the inning, singled home two more runs.
The Legends open a four-game series at Delmarva Thursday night.
