Mike Foltynewicz worked six strong innings, and the Lexington Legends held off the Augusta GreenJackets 5-2 Tuesday night in Augusta.
Enrique Hernandez had three hits and an RBI for Lexington, and Mike Kvasnicka had two doubles and a run. Augusta's Adam Duvall, a former Louisville star, homered for the third straight game, a solo shot in the fifth inning and the only run off Foltynewicz. He leads the South Atlantic League with 17 homers.
Foltynewicz (3-6) won his first decision in three starts despite not striking out a batter and giving up eight hits and two walks over six innings. Louisville native Jason Chowning pitched a perfect 12⁄3 innings for his second save.
Augusta has won two of three games in the series.
Tuesday's victory was Lexington's second in eight games. After hovering near .500 — and first place — in the SAL South for weeks, the Legends (30-35) have dropped into a tie for third with Asheville, 81/2 games behind Savannah. The Sand Gnats (38-26) are six games ahead of second-place Greenville and are the only team in the South with a winning record.
