The Lexington Legends wasted a strong start by Luis Cruz as the Kannapolis Intimidators scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on their way to a 3-2 win at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Tuesday night.
Cruz struck out nine and scattered five hits over seven innings, giving up two runs. It was his second straight start with nine strikeouts.
But after he was replaced by Murilo Gouvea to start the eighth, Dan Black hit his 30th double of the year to drive in Keenyn Walker.
Gouvea didn't have any more trouble the rest of the way, but the run was enough to even the four-game series at one apiece.
The Legends took a 2-1 lead in the second inning. With two outs and a man on third, a wild pitch by Phil Negus sent Telvin Nash home and Tyler Burnett to third. Ben Orloff then doubled to score Walker for his 20th RBI of the season.
