Adam Conley, Greg Nappo and Kevin Cravey combined for a four-hit shutout, and Brent Keys and Josh Adams hit solo homers as the Greensboro Grasshoppers blanked the Lexington Legends 7-0 in the season opener Friday night at Greensboro, N.C.
Legends starter Michael Foltynewicz didn't make it out of the third inning.
Keys led off the Grasshoppers' first inning with a home run to left to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless second, the Grasshoppers put together five singles, a walk and a hit batter to score six runs in the third. The Legends also committed an error in the inning. Wilfredo Gimenez delivered the most damaging blow, a two-run single that made it 5-0.
Never miss a local story.
The six-run lead was plenty for Greensboro. All four Legends hits were singles. One runner reached third base and two others got as far as second. Grasshoppers pitchers walked two and struck out eight.
Lexington will get two shots at their first victory Saturday when they play a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
The twinbill was scheduled after the originally scheduled opener was rained out Thursday night.
