The Lexington Legends hit three home runs in the first two innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead and went on to defeat the Rome Braves 8-2 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.
Matt Duffy got the scoring started with his ninth home run of the season. His two-run shot to left center field knocked in Zachary Johnson.
Chris Epps followed with his second home run of the year and James Howick's solo shot in the second put the Legends in command.
Rome cut the lead to 4-2 before Lexington put the game away with two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Delino DeShields Jr. and Jordan Scott both scored on an error in the seventh. In the eighth, Johnson singled in Howick and Duffy doubled to knock in Scott.
Richard Rodriguez started for the Legends and pitched three innings. He gave up one run and had four strikeouts.
Nathan Pettus (1-4) pitched 32⁄3 innings and struck out five to earn the win.
Murilo Gouvea got his first save after pitching 21⁄3 shutout innings.
