GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro Grasshoppers rallied twice, once at the bottom of the ninth and once in the bottom of the 13th, to defeat the Lexington Legends 12-11 on Monday night in extra innings.
Greensboro trailed by three in the bottom of the ninth, but the Grasshoppers evened things up on a triple by Ryan McIntyre and a throwing error by Legends third baseman Chan Moon.
Both teams were scoreless in the 10th through 12th innings, but Jose Fernandez doubled in Roberto Pena and made it home himself on a home run by Delino DeShields Jr. to put Lexington ahead by three at the top of the 13th.
Greensboro bounced back as Austin Barnes doubled on a line drive to center, scoring Terrence Dayleg and Rand Smith.
Ryan Goetz made it home on an Aaron Senne single and Barnes then scored on a single by Josh Adams to end the game.
Chris Shafer (1-1) pitched the last three innings for Greensboro to earn the win. Evan Grills (2-1) entered in the 13th for Lexington, allowing three hits for the loss.
