Lexington Legends starter Luis Cruz matched the Greensboro Grasshoppers' Jose Urena with seven scoreless innings before Cruz unraveled in the eighth inning of a 3-1 loss in North Carolina.
Cruz had only given up four hits and two walks, and he had seven strikeouts before giving up a leadoff triple to Brent Keys.
Austin Barnes followed with a run-scoring single and Aaron Senne finished off Cruz (5-5) with a two-run shot to right field.
Legends reliever Nathan Pettus had his own troubles, walking the first two batters he faced before getting out of the inning with a pair of strikeouts and a pop out.
Never miss a local story.
Lexington had taken the lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Zachary Johnson.
The Grasshoppers' Daniel Oliver struck out two batters and walked one while earning his first save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Johnson and Luis Alvarez, who scored the Legends' only run, led the team with two hits apiece. Alvarez, a catcher, also got his first stolen base of the season.
