William Swanner hit a grand slam and Jose Rivera added a two-run homer as the Asheville Tourists broke through for seven runs in the seventh inning to pull away to a 13-8 victory over the Lexington Legends at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.
Lexington had pulled to within 6-5 in the sixth inning, but the Tourists blew the game open in the seventh against reliever Nathan Pettus.
Pettus replaced Legends starter Michael Foltynewicz (9-2) to open the inning and promptly gave up three consecutive singles, including a run-scoring hit by Trevor Story that pushed Asheville's lead to 7-5.
A sacrifice bunt by Joey Wong was misplayed for an error by Pettus, loading the bases. Swanner followed with a grand slam to right field — his eighth home run of the season — and three batters later Rivera went deep to left.
The next batter singled before Pettus was pulled. His pitching line: a third of an inning, six hits, seven runs (six earned), one walk and a 162.00 ERA.
Brandon Meredith hit a solo homer for the Legends.
