Local bowlers continued their high-scoring trend this season with a perfect game and three 299 performances.
Austin Shields rolled his first perfect game Feb. 16 in the Around Town League at Collins Bowling Centers-Southland. Shields used the score to pace a 730 series.
Shields joined his father, past LABA president Daryl Shields, in the 300 club. His older brother, Brandon, has bowled a 299.
Greg Bell came close to a perfect game on Feb. 17 in the Friday Night Fun League at Eastland, rolling a 299 en route to a 729 series. Another 299 came from Cameron Ewert on Feb. 21 in the Beltline League at Southland.

Owyn Spahr, a youth bowler at Southland, rolled a 299 game on Feb. 18 in the Southland Youth League. Spahr paced a 663 series with his effort.
LABA tourney kicks off
The 72nd Lexington Area Bowling Association Tournament began Saturday at Capital Bowl in Frankfort.
The event will conclude next Sunday, and you can still enter this open-entry contest.
Entries for teams close at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4, and at 4 p.m. on March 3 for the singles and doubles events. Entry forms are available at area bowling centers.
