The Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls' State Basketball Tournament tips off in WKU's E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green with most expecting an unimpeded coronation of top-ranked Marion County. The Lady Knights are attempting to become the first undefeated girls' state champion since Marshall County in 1984. Marion County, led by University of Kentucky signees Makayla Epps and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers, has won its 35 games by an average of 33.6 points, with no Kentucky opponent coming closer than 15 points. Marion County plays in the Sweet Sixteen's opening game against Bowling Green at 1 p.m. EDT. Madison Central, champions of the 11th Region, play the final game of the opening round on Thursday at 9 p.m. against Notre Dame.
Eighth-ranked Louisville opens play against Villanova or St. John's in the quarterfinals of the Big East Conference Tournament at Madison Square Garden. The Cardinals, winners of seven straight, head to New York in hot pursuit of a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. For those who love Big East history, take a good look, because this is the last tourney with its traditional teams. (7 p.m., ESPN)
The UK men's basketball team opens play in the quarterfinal round of the SEC Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The Wildcats will take on the winner of Thursday's game between Vanderbilt and Arkansas. As unpredictable as the SEC regular season has been, we probably should not expect anything less in the Music City. (7:30 p.m., WKYT-27)
The seventh-ranked UK baseball team opens its first Southeastern Conference series of the spring at Florida (7:30 p.m.). The unranked Gators, who opened the season at No. 24, are 8-8, having already endured a six-game losing streak this season. Kentucky, meanwhile, is off to a 12-2 start.
