It's almost anniversary time for Lexington's local association annual tournament.
The 75th Greater Lexington USBC Open Tournament, formerly known as the Lexington Bowling Association Tournament, will be held at Collins Bowling Centers-Eastland on Feb. 14-15 and Feb. 21-22.
The 70th Greater Lexington USBC Women's Tournament will also be played there those weekends.
The tournament was first held in 1941 at the old Congress Lanes, which was an eight-lane center on the second floor of the Barney Miller's building on Main Street.
The event drew 20 five-man teams and 32 doubles and 64 singles entries.
The cost was $2 per man per event and the bowling portion of the fee was 20 cents per game.
Over the years, the tournament has been held at Congress Lanes, Colonial Lanes, Wildcat Lanes, Bluegrass Lanes, Newtown Lanes, Eastland and Southland Lanes and Joyland Bowl in Lexington.
The event has also been held at Bowl-A-Way Lanes and Capital Bowl in Frankfort and at Strike Zone Lanes in Nicholasville.
This year, the entry fee is $22 per bowler per event and the entry deadline for both tournaments is Feb. 8.
