South Lexington cruised to a 13-1 win over Cumberland County (Pa.) in the first game of pool play in the 2015 Cal Rip-ken Major/60 World Series Saturday in Monticello, Ark.
An RBI double by Ben Johnson, a two-run double by Samuel Tackett and an RBI single by Carson Caudill powered South Lexington to a four-run lead in the top of the first. Tackett led the offense with three hits and 5 RBI. Bryce Travis struck out six in three innings of work yielding one run on two hits and two walks. He left with an 8-1 lead.
South Lexington, representing the Ohio Valley Region in the tournament, next faces West Texas representative Littlefield at 4 p.m. EDT Sunday.
