Senior Sylver Samuel reached base on a bunt to open the bottom of the eighth inning. MSU’s pitcher made an errant throw to first on the play, allowing Samuel to reach second base. Samuel then stole third base and raced home with the winning run when the catcher’s throw to third sailed into the outfield. Samuel now has 82 career stolen bases, tying Leslie Kwiatkowski’s school record.
The Wildcats won Friday night’s game 3-2 in nine innings on a walk-off wild pitch.
Junior pitcher Megan Prince (19-4) worked seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out four. Prince relieved starter Kelsey Nunley who tossed one inning and received the start in honor of Senior Day.
Nunley, Samuel, Ansley Smith, Christian Stokes, Maisie Steed and Nikki Sagermann were honored during pre-game Senior Day festivities.
