The University of Kentucky men’s basketball team continued to solidify dates for its 2016-17 schedule with the announcement Thursday of a game against Hofstra at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The Wildcats will play Hofstra on Dec. 11 as part of the Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival. LIU-Brooklyn will face St. John’s in the second game of the doubleheader that day.
Hofstra finished 24-10 last season, losing to George Washington in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament. The Dec. 11 game will mark the first meeting between Kentucky and Hofstra.
The Kentucky-Hofstra game was originally supposed to be the first sporting event in the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, N.Y., but the reopening of that venue was delayed.
On Wednesday, UK locked in four preseason exhibition events — Big Blue Madness on Oct. 14, the Blue-White Scrimmage on Oct. 21 and home exhibition games against Clarion on Oct. 30 and Asbury on Nov. 6.
Other non-conference games confirmed for 2016-17 include:
Nov. 15: vs. Michigan State (Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York)
Nov. 28: vs. Arizona State (Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas)
Dec. 3: vs. UCLA (Rupp Arena)
Dec. 17: vs. North Carolina (CBS Sports Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.)
Kentucky will also play its annual game against Louisville, this year at the KFC Yum Center, and host a game in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Also, Duquesne University in Pittsburgh announced Wednesday it will visit Kentucky for a game this season.
Dates for those games have not yet been made official.
