Tyler Swafford came to EKU to play quarterback; he’s leaving as a student of the world

Tyler Swafford came to Eastern Kentucky University determined to carve out a memorable career as a quarterback. Instead, the Franklin, Tenn., product used resources available to him as an EKU student to engage the world. While at Eastern, Swafford has visited Casablanca, NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, the Dachau concentration camp and played in an all-star football game in China. Now, he is giving up his final two seasons of football eligibility at Eastern to study in Ireland as one of 12 winners of the prestigious George J. Mitchell Scholarship.
