Arts Day at Capitol raises awareness for politicians, public

  The Kentucky Arts Council has announced plans for Arts Day in Kentucky, to be celebrated Jan. 28 in Frankfort.

Arts Day generally is scheduled to coincide with the annual legislative session and puts the arts and arts issues before lawmakers. The day includes a public reception from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Capitol Rotunda featuring performances and demonstrations by artists affiliated with the Kentucky Arts Council. Leaders of state arts groups will meet with their legislators and receive support checks from the Arts Council.

Performers on Arts Day will include bluegrass band Kentucky Wild Horse of Owenton, Garrison fiddler Roger Cooper and Greenville guitarist Joe Hudson. Demonstrators will include scratchboard artist Kathy Conroy of Pleasureville; basket makers Scott Gilbert and Beth Hester of Scottsville; folk artists Lonnie and Twyla Money of East Bernstadt; collage painter Eva King of Murray; and luthier Doug Naselroad of Winchester and his apprentice, Mike Slone of Mousie.

Entertainment, more set for H’artful of Fun

The Living Arts and Science Center has announced performers for the annual H’artful of Fun Ball: the Patrick McNeese Band and silk aerialist Jessica Johnson.

McNeese describes his style as Appalachian jazz, and his band has become a bit of a Lexington all-star outfit with percussionist Tripp Bratton, violinist and vocalist Maggie Lander, keyboardist Tom Martin and bassist Jesse Pena. The group is gearing up for a new recording,

Johnson is the owner of Bella Forza Fitness and a trained aerialist who combines dance and acrobatic movements while hanging high above the ground from a special fabric. She performs without safety lines to wrap, suspend, fall, swing and spiral her body into and out of positions.

Food will be provided by Dupree Catering, Nick Ryan’s, Azur, Louisiana Passion, Spindletop, Athenian Grill, Hillary Boone Faculty Center, Tinker’s Cakes, Martine’s, Midway School Bakery, Crank and Boom Ice Cream and others.

Tickets are $65 through Friday; after that, they’re $80, including at the door. An $85 VIP ticket includes one drink ticket and a hand-printed, limited edition event poster by Cricket Press.
