Frankfort student wins $10,000 in poetry contest

Barbara Gooding, a student at Frankfort's Western Hills High School, won second place in the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest.

Gooding was among 12 finalists in the national competition Tuesday at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. She took home $10,000 for the achievement.

The winner was William Farley of Arlington, Va. The competition was presided over by National Public Radio host Scott Simon, and judges included Prairie Home Companion host Garrison Keillor and actress Tyne Daly.
