Bruce Thompson roamed the floor of The ScareFest Friday afternoon dressed as “Nightmare on Elm Street” villain Freddy Krueger with an oddly appealing accessory: a “Free Hugs” sign.
Festival goers all but lined up to take him up on the offer, Thompson laying his faux lethal claws across their shoulders, making it seem slightly dangerous. Thompson traveled to Lexington from Columbus, Ga., enticed by ScareFest’s lineup of “Nightmare on Elm Street” stars —including Freddy himself, Robert Englund.
Ricky Dean Logan, who played one of Krueger’s many victims, said he, Englund and other “Nightmare” alum enjoy traveling together. “We’ll probably get together to watch ‘Saturday Night Live’ tomorrow,” he said on the Fest’s black carpet.
The 10th annual ScareFest boasts stars from many horror and paranormal films and TV shows as well a floor full of like-minded exhibitors. It continues through Sunday at the Lexington Convention Center. Visit Thescarefest.com for more information.
