Family Reviews

A parents' guide to select new movies:

'17 Again'

Rating: PG-13 for language, some sexual material and teen partying.

What it's about: A middle-aged guy who married his pregnant girlfriend gets to go back to high school to see whether he can get his life right this time.

The kid attractor factor: Zac Efron, silly.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Safe sex can mean the difference between a happy life and wondering what might have been.

Violence: A bully beat-down.

Language: Half a dozen profanities.

Sex: Pregnancy is a subtext, and girls are always coming on to Efron's character, including his "daughter."

Drugs: Beer.

Parents' advisory: A very nice transition for kids who have outgrown High School Musical — fine for 14 and older.

'Dragonball Evolution'

Rating: PG for intense sequences of action/violence and brief mild language.

What it's about: Teen boy seeks magical dragonballs to save the Earth from a reign of terror.

The kid attractor factor: Martial arts, fantasy, action and pretty girls.

Good lessons/bad lessons: "Always have faith in who you are."

Violence: Shootouts, a death, martial-arts action.

Language: A single mild moment of profanity.

Sex: Cleavage and lots of it.

Drugs: None.

Parents' advisory: A benign martial-arts fantasy that will be a little hard to follow but is suitable for 8 and older.
