A parents' guide to select new movies:
Rating: R for brief strong language
What it's about: An anti-crime/anti-Commie zealot founds the FBI and runs it for his entire career.
The Kid Attractor Factor: Leonardo DiCaprio, above, is pretty much it. Most kids won't know who J. Edgar Hoover was.
Good lessons/bad lessons: The bigger the "moralist," the bigger the hypocrite.
Violence: Shootings, a fist fight, an infant's corpse
Language: Some profanity
Sex: Discussed, limited to kissing
Drugs and alcohol: Alcohol is consumed, cigarettes are smoked.
Parents' advisory: Only its gay subtext can explain the R rating. Suitable for history buffs 13 and older.'A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas'
Rating: R for strong crude and sexual content, graphic nudity, pervasive language, drug use and some violence
What it's about: Kumar looks up his old pal Harold and fouls up his Christmas with his incessant pot-smoking.
The Kid Attractor Factor: It's a Christmas movie, it's in 3-D, and their underage friends might have slipped into it already.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Yes, you can have your weed — and smoke it, too.
Violence: A shooting, some fairly graphic stitches
Language: Incessant profanity
Sex: Crudely flirted with and discussed, and what looks like date rape is played for laughs.
Drugs and alcohol: Cocaine, marijuana, pipes and joints
Parents' advisory: If you don't give your kids 3-D allowance money, they won't be able to sneak into it. Not for younger than 17.
