A parents' guide to select new movies:

'New Year's Eve'

Rating: PG-13 for language including some sexual references

What it's about: Assorted New Yorkers stumble toward that magical moment at midnight when a kiss signals the hope of a New Year.

The Kid Attractor Factor: Lea Michele, Ashton Kutcher, left, and Abigail Breslin are among those in search of a midnight kiss.

Good lessons/bad lessons: "Remember, follow your heart!"

Violence: A few Katherine Heigl slaps.

Language: A smattering of profanity, including one big, loud F-bomb.

Sex: Barely a hint of it.

Drugs and alcohol: Champagne, of course.

Parents' advisory: That one comic F-bomb is all that keeps this comedy from being PG; too long for the very young, but suitable for 10 and older.
