The work of two filmmakers who grew up in Lexington will be back in the cinemas Friday, when the horror film The Devil Inside opens.

Written by William Brent Bell and Matthew Peterman and directed by Bell, the story revolves around a woman (Fernanda Andrade) who becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms in Italy during her mission to discover what happened to her mother (Suzan Crowley), who allegedly murdered three people during her own exorcism.

It also stars Brian Johnson, who grew up in Lexington and graduated from the University of Kentucky.

Bell and Peterman are now based in Los Angeles. Their previous release was the video game-based thriller Stay Alive (2006).

The film, the only movie opening in wide release this weekend, was not screened in advance for critics.
