Richmond's St. Mark taps Patti LaBelle as guest for annual benefit

Legendary soul singer Patti LaBelle will be the guest at the 2009 Evening Among Friends Encore fund-raiser at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church in Richmond.

The announcement was made after the church's benefit concert Saturday featuring Dolly Parton. Previous guests of the Evening Among Friends series have been Natalie Cole, Bill Cosby, Regis Philbin and Martin Short. The Rev. James W. Sichko of St. Mark's created the benefit series based on the concept that the church is called to improve the quality of life and to give back what it has received.

LaBelle, who is also a best-selling author, will perform at 7 p.m. Dec. 19, 2009, at St. Mark's, 608 West Main Street in Richmond.

Tickets, of which only 300 are available, are $175 each, $500 to meet LaBelle or $2,500 for a pew of eight. Proceeds benefit the Madison County Humane Society and St. Peter Claver Church in Lexington. Tickets go on sale at 8 a.m. Monday by calling (859) 623-2989 or visiting www.saintmarkcatholicchurch.net.
