Blake Shelton couldn't stay long the last time he passed through Lexington. As a surprise guest at January's Rupp Arena concert by Brad Paisley, Shelton was introduced by paramour and opening act Miranda Lambert. He received just enough stage time to sneak in an acoustic version of the Michael Bublé hit Home, which also became a chart -topper for Shelton in 2008, before sneaking away so the announced artists could get on with the show.
On Friday, however, the stage will belong to Shelton: The Oklahoma-born country star headlines the first night of the Spotlight Lexington festival in Courthouse Plaza.
Shelton is riding a strong commercial wave of a decade-long career. The title tune to his new six-song EP disc, All About Tonight, recently became a monster No. 1 hit with country radio. Cementing his reputation as a major country music force will be the release of Shelton's first greatest-hits album in November.
Apparently, life for the singer is pretty rosy offstage as well. He and Lambert became engaged in May.
