A University of Kentucky a cappella singing group has been selected to compete on the next season of NBC's The Sing-Off.
The all-male acoUstiKats are among 10 groups that will compete for a grand prize of $100,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music. The show begins airing at 9 p.m. Dec. 9.
The acoUstiKats were founded in 1993 during UK choral director Jefferson Johnson's first semester at the UK School of Music.
UK students competing on The Sing-Off are: Jordan Lindsey and Mason Stewart of Paducah; Nick Johnson and Patrick Banks of Frankfort; Evan Jennings Pulliam, Peter Gibbons and Ross Hill of Lexington; Jeremy Michael Lewis of Rockford, Ill.; Ron Wilbur of Austell, Ga.; Charlie McManus of Fairfax, Va.; Mike Owens of Louisville; and Banks Mattingly of Maysville.

On The Sing-Off, each a cappella group will perform songs with no lip-synching or backup bands. The judges will be Jewel, Ben Folds of Ben Folds Five and Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, and the host is Nick Lachey. The finale is scheduled to air Dec. 23.
The third and most recent season of The Sing-Off, in 2011, was won by the group Pentatonix, which includes Owensboro native Kevin Olusola.
