Popular Southern comedian Etta May will premiere a new one-woman show in June at Thoroughbred Community Theater in Midway.
Dr. Etta, Family Specialist will feature the Lexington resident, known for her stand-up comedy acts throughout the country, as she takes the audience for a walk through her life.
"This is different than anything I've ever done," Etta May said in a news release. The two-act play, she said, has been 20 years in the making. "There comes a time as a performer when you have to step out of your comfort zone, push the envelope and grow. I feel like a new chapter of my life is beginning."
The show will be June 5 and 6 at the theater, 127 East Main Street, Midway. A pre-show "happy hour" will start each night at 6, and Etta May will take the stage at 7.

Tickets are $15, all of which will benefit Thoroughbred Community Theater, the release said; they are available by calling the theater at (859) 846-9827. Seating is limited, and reservations are strongly suggested.
"When I told my Nashville agent where I wanted to debut this new show, he thought I was crazy," Etta May said. "We call this my 'off-off-off-Broadway-then-take-a-left-turn-down-a-country-road' premiere."
