Ballet rocks at the Opera House

No, it's not a tourist-trap restaurant. And it's definitely not a night of fluffy, frilly dance.

Hard Rock Ballet is Lexington Ballet's effort to add new dimensions to one of the fine arts' more delicate disciplines and to add new moves to rock 'n' roll.

"Rock and its mythology are purely romantic; they subscribe the highest merit to all excesses and individual explosions of geniality," Lexington Ballet artistic director Luis Dominguez writes of the show at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Lexington Opera House, 401 West Short Street. "Its constant is the need for dynamic discovery, accepting only creative and absolute freedom."

The show will feature original choreography for classics including Queen's We Will Rock You, The White Stripes' Seven Nation Army and Aerosmith's Dream On.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the Downtown Arts Center ticket office, 141 East Main Street; call (859) 225-0370 or go to
