The long-delayed Chick-fil-A on Richmond Road is really coming.
A spokeswoman for the company on Tuesday confirmed that the spot in front of Southland Christian Church at 2299 Richmond Road is now under development. Construction should begin soon.
The restaurant will have a grand opening in late June/early July, said Callie Bowers, Chick-fil-A spokeswoman.
Chick-fil-A grand openings typically draw devotees who wait in line overnight for freebies and coupons.
Demolition at the former Applebee’s restaurant at the site began in January. The restaurant closed in 2016.
Chick-fil-A had announced the new restaurant a year ago but no action was taken until 2018.
Chick-fil-A is the largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in the United States based on annual system-wide sales. It serves a wide variety of sandwiches, salads and wraps, but its staple item is the original chicken sandwich, a seasoned boneless breast of chicken that is hand-breaded and pressure-cooked in peanut oil, then served on a bun with dill pickle chips.
