'The Dark Knight'

Plenty of fans shelled out more than once to see The Dark Knight in theaters multiple times. They might wind up doing the same on home video given how the studio is skimping with the extras on the initial DVD and Blu-ray releases featuring Batman (Christian Bale) battling his inner demons and the sadistic schemes of his greatest foe, the Joker (Heath Ledger). The two-disc DVD and Blu-ray releases have a behind-the-scenes segment, episodes of the Gotham Tonight news show featured in the movie and a digital copy of the film for portable video players. The Blu-ray also has a featurette on Batman's gadgets and a psychological study of the conflicted hero. A single-disc DVD version comes with just the movie. Single-disc DVD, $28.98; two-disc DVD set, $34.99; two-disc Blu-ray set, $35.99. (Warner Bros.)

'Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!'

The beloved children's tale became an animated hit featuring the voice of Jim Carrey in the title role, an elephant desperate to convince his jungle denizens about the existence of an endangered microscopic community of people called Who's. Two-disc DVD and Blu-ray releases have deleted scenes and test footage with commentary from the filmmakers, cast and crew interviews, a segment on Carrey and featurettes on how the animators brought Seuss' storybook world to life. They also come with a digital copy of the film. The movie is available separately as a bare-bones single DVD. Single-disc DVD, $29.98; two-disc DVD set, $34.98; two-disc Blu-ray set, $39.98. (20th Century Fox)

'I Am Legend'

Will Smith's apocalyptic sci-fi smash gets a classy boxed-set makeover with a three-disc DVD and two-disc Blu-ray "Ultimate Collector's Edition," including two versions of the movie, the theatrical release and a cut with an alternate ending. Previously filmed as Vincent Price's The Last Man on Earth and Charlton Heston's The Omega Man, the story features Smith as a scientist seeking a cure for the global plague that killed most of humanity and turned the rest into ravenous mutants. The sets include animated comics centered on other survivors, a dozen deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes segments and a 44-page book. The sets also have filmmaker commentary and a digital copy of the movie. DVD set, $49.92; Blu-ray set, $59.99. (Warner Bros.)
