The battle between the vampires and the Lycans, or werewolves, continues in Underworld: Awakening, the fourth film in the franchise. Kate Beckinsale as the sexy vampire Selene returns after skipping part three, Rise of the Lycans, as does her director husband, Len Wiseman.
In the first Underworld, Selene hooked up with a werewolf-vampire hybrid named Michael, and the two had a daughter, Eve (India Eisley). In Awakening, after being underground for a while — snoozing like vamps do — Selene is roused to save Eve from a scientist (Stephen Rea) who is after Eve's DNA for some nefarious reason.
There will be blood and gore and then more. If you like this stuff, Wiseman has a flair for it.
Underworld: Awakening retails for $30.99 or $35.99 on Blu-ray.
In The Vow, amnesia plays a crucial part — and amnesia is what you might wish you had after seeing this dreary, drippy romance.
Cute Rachel McAdams and hunky Channing Tatum play cute Paige and hunky Leo, a young married couple. An auto accident puts Paige in a coma, and when she emerges she has forgotten the couple's life together. In fact, she's even acting like the spoiled rich suburban girl she was before she met nice-guy record producer Leo.
Obviously, this means he must win Paige again. Odds are stacked against him, though. Her mom and dad (Jessica Lange and Sam Neill) never liked Leo, and Paige's old boyfriend Jeremy (Scott Speedman) has shown up. Did I care? Not that I remember.
The Vow retails for $30.99 or $40.99 on Blu-ray.
