Berea named a top arts destination

Readers of AmericanStyle magazine have named Berea a top destination for travelers looking to collect art and to tour museums, galleries and festivals.

The Madison County town, highly regarded in Kentucky for its arts and crafts, ranked 24th on the magazine's list of small cities. That put it in the company of such highly regarded arts destinations as Santa Fe, N.M., and Asheville, N.C.

Berea is the only Kentucky city to receive this designation.

To celebrate, the Kentucky Artisan Center, 975 Walnut Meadow Road in Berea, is having a reception at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, during which Marcheta Sparrow, secretary of the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, will present a plaque on behalf of AmericanStyle magazine to Berea Mayor Steven Connelly. The reception is free.
