One of the first painted ponies of Horse Mania 2010 rode into downtown Lexington on Wednesday.
Toulouse-La Track by Kentucky artists Priscilla Roberts Fallon and Anna Daniel Hall was delivered to LexArts' ArtsPlace Gallery, where it will join Henry by Mary Wathen for a full announcement of the sequel to 2000's Horse Mania on Friday.
A call to artists is going out Thursday to solicit proposals for the project that will flood the streets of Lexington with colorful horses in plenty of time for next fall's 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Proposals will be due in January, then selected artists will go to work in the winter and spring for the project's July 1 debut.
When the project is completed in December 2010, the horses will be auctioned at Keeneland, just as they were in 2000. Proceeds will go to up to two charities selected by the horses' sponsors.
