LexArts announced Thursday that its 2010 Fund for the Arts campaign has raised $930,000, and it expects to reach its goal of $1 million by June 30.
That figure includes $450,000 in Mayor Jim Newberry's proposed budget for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. The Urban County Council is discussing the budget.
The Fund for the Arts is the basis for LexArts general operating support to area arts groups such as the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra and Lexington Children's Theatre and grants to organizations and individual artists. Last month, LexArts announced it had revised its grant guidelines to include more groups. Funding recipients will be announced in June.
LexArts has traditionally reached its goal by its campaign finale, a party held Thursday night at Spindletop Hall. In a news release, LexArts president and CEO Jim Clark said the campaign cabinet and LexArts board and staff will redouble their efforts to achieve the $1 million goal.
