The cold, hard facts

Time to perfect that Axel. The Unified Trust Co. Ice Rink at Triangle Park, 400 West Main Street, opens for the season on Friday. The 90-minute skate rental fee is $10. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Jan. 11. When Fayette County schools are not in session the rink will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. Go to Triangleparklexington.org for more info.

Art installations at this month's Night Market

The Lexington Art League reveals its newest projects in the Interstruct series of art installations on Friday. The exhibit opens at the Night Market, the monthly street festival, 6 to 10 p.m. along the 700 block of Bryan Avenue. Chicago-based artist Rebecca Hamlin Green explores themes of home, nostalgia and history in her mixed-media installation This Remains to Be at 128 York Street. Tennessee artists Juan Rojo and Cedar Nordbye question the institution of marriage and home ownership in Partnership House at 740 North Limestone. Art will be on view through Nov. 21.

Loretta Lynn plays the louisville palace

Country legend and Butcher Hollow native Loretta Lynn performs at the Louisville Palace at 8 p.m. on Friday. Tickets are $29.50 to $45. Go to Louisvillepalace.com.

Some of the world's greatest music

The Russian State Symphony Orchestra, known in Russia as the State Symphony Capella of Russia, comes to the Norton Center for the Arts, 600 West Walnut St., Danville, at 8 p.m. Friday. The orchestra will perform music by iconic Russian composers, including Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, under the direction of maestro Valeri Polyansky. Pianist Vladimir Feltsman will join the orchestra for Rachmaninov's legendary Piano Concerto No. 2. Tickets are $38-$75 at Nortoncenter.com.
