A Kentucky Court of Appeals panel on Tuesday denied a motion to release a Jessamine County woman who was jailed because she continued to sell securities related to the 1901 Spindletop oil strike in Texas.
On July 16, a Franklin Circuit judge ordered Jewell Robbins, 75, to serve a 120-day sentence because she continued to sell the securities despite a court order. Robbins has been in the Franklin County jail since July 22, following a nearly week-long stay at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Court of Appeals Judge Thomas B. Wine had denied in July a motion for emergency relief. And on Tuesday a motion for intermediate relief in the form of a stay of enforcement was denied by Wine and Court of Appeals Judge Joy A. Moore. Judge Kelly Thompson dissented.
