James H. “Jamie” Barnett, who last month was convicted of killing Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy, was formally sentenced to life in prison Wednesday at the Powell County courthouse. He can seek parole in 20 years. Barnett accepted a deal for a life sentence after a jury found him guilty of wanton murder on July 16. After Wednesday's sentencing, Barnett's brother, Gerald Barnett, was arrested after a confrontation with Powell County sheriff's deputy Rob Matthews. Gerald Barnett is being held in the Clark County jail on a $25,000 cash bond on charges of disorderly conduct and two counts of terroristic threatening, Clark County Deputy Jailer Billy Thomas said. He is also being held on a $35,000 cash bond on retaliating against a participant in a legal process.
