A 3-year-old boy was killed Saturday when a vehicle driven by his 28-year-old uncle accidentally struck him at the home of the child’s grandparents, authorities said Sunday.
Kentucky State Police said Landon James Gootee had wandered behind the vehicle driven by Jeremy Gootee that was backing out of a private drive at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on St. Mary’s Road, about 2 miles north of Lebanon.

The accident occurred at the home of the child’s maternal grandparents, Terry and Mary Masterson Gootee, at 1875 St. Mary’s Road, said Marion County deputy coroner Allen Mattingly.
The child was pronounced dead at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon of head and chest injuries, Mattingly said. No autopsy was performed.
No charges have been filed in the case, police said.
Survivors include the child’s mother, Shannon Gootee, of Lebanon; the father, Shawn Woodyard, of Lebanon; and paternal grandmother, Teresa Penman of Danville.
Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is handling arrangements.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at St. Francis in Marion County.
