Mayor arrested after chase

Burnside Mayor Charles Fourman was arrested Sunday by Somerset police on two counts of wanton endangerment and one charge of first-degree fleeing or evading after a two-county chase.

Police said Somerset officer Joe Criswell pulled over a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by Fourman at 2:39 p.m. Sunday near the Somerset Mall for an equipment violation.

Fourman, 41, told the officer that he was en route to the hospital because of an injury, police said. After the car failed to stop at the hospital, police pursued him as he continued west on the Cumberland Parkway.

Fourman eventually was stopped in Russell County after police used stop-sticks to blow out his tires.

He was treated at the Russell County Hospital for an injury and then was held in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
