Lexington police said Guzman-Pineda was traveling west about 7 p.m. on the inner loop of Man o' War Boulevard between Cave Hill Lane and Beaumont Center Lane when he lost control of the car and crossed the median.
The car stuck the driver's side of a Buick LaSabre that was driven by Thomas E. Murphy Jr., 72. Guzman-Pineda, who was not wearing a safety belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police indicated Guzman-Pineda, was suspected of alcohol use; Murphy was not.
Murphy, who was wearing a safety belt, and an unidentified passenger in the Mercury were taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital.
Murphy was discharged from the hospital Sunday.
