Lexington native to retire from D.C. education job

Constantine W. "Deno" Curris, a Lexington native and a former president of Murray State University, announced Friday that he will retire as president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C.

He did not set a date for his retirement. He has held the job since 1999.

Curris has been mentioned as a potential candidate for president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, the coordinating agency for the public universities and community colleges. The council plans to hire a new president by the end of this year.

The University of Kentucky alumnus has also been president of Clemson University and the University of Iowa. He was inducted into the UK Alumni Hall of Fame in 2006.

His wife, Jo Hern Currris, a tax lawyer and a Harlan County native, began a six-year term on July 10 as an alumni member of the UK Board of Trustees. The couple have two children.
