A group of about eight restaurants in Versailles and Midway have petitioned fiscal court to consider drafting an ordinance that would allow alcohol sales from 1 p.m. to midnight Sundays.
The issue came up in 2005, when Bill Vandendool, owner of The Black Tulip wine bar and bistro in Midway, asked fiscal court to consider the sale of beer and wine on Sundays. Fiscal court took no action on the request then because it was feared such an ordinance would open the door to packaged alcohol sales on Sundays, which are now prohibited in all areas of the county outside the Versailles city limits
The current request must come before fiscal court because, as a fifth-class city, Midway City Council does not have authority under state law to consider such an ordinance.
The fiscal court meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the second floor of the Woodford County Courthouse, 103 South Main Street, Versailles.
