Fletcher, 28, was shot once by the homeowner, Eric Reynolds, 23, police said. The men fled to a pickup to find a hospital for Fletcher but called authorities at 11:54 p.m. after they were unable to do so.

Police found the men in the cab of a pickup on Mount Eden Road. Fletcher had died of a single gunshot wound.

Carpenter, 22, and Fast, 22, were charged with burglary. They were being held Sunday in the Shelby County Jail.
