Mayor Jim Newberry is expected to report on the progress of affordable housing and low-income renters programs during a meeting with the interfaith group BUILD Monday night.
Newberry is expected to discuss his commitment to the creation of an Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF), which would multiply public revenues dedicated to affordable housing, according to BUILD officials. BUILD stands for Building a United Interfaith Lexington Through Direct Action.
He also will discuss his commitment to write and support an ordinance that would protect low-income renters who are displaced from their homes by rezoning or redevelopment.
BUILD's community problems assembly starts at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church at 153 Barr Street. More than 200 BUILD members are expected to attend.
Rice Leach of the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department is also expected to attend the assembly to update the group on the department's efforts to help more uninsured adults in Lexington.
