Man shot in rear pleads not guilty

RICHMOND — The man who was shot in the buttock after he struck a Kentucky State Police trooper with the van he was driving pleaded not guilty Friday to a charge of attempted murder of a police officer.

Mikeith D. Wilson, 29, also pleaded not guilty in Madison District Court to first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, OxyContin; first-degree wanton endangerment; and first-degree fleeing and evading.

Officers had been trying to serve Wilson and others with a search warrant at a Shell gas station on Eastern Bypass in Richmond. State police Det. Jasper White was released Thursday afternoon from Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond, where he had been treated for a broken kneecap.

Authorities said Wilson's wound did not appear to be life-threatening. He was being held in Madison County jail on a $50,000 cash bond. His next court date is 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Madison District Court.
