The Urban County Council approved changes to the 4-year-old smoking ban Nov. 6, prohibiting smoking in all workplaces and on public transportation. Some workplaces and private organizations were previously exempt from the ban.
Businesses are required to tell anyone who is smoking to stop smoking. If someone refuses to stop smoking, the business must deny service and ask the smoker to leave.
Businesses also must post "No Smoking" signs that are clearly visible at public entrances and must remove all ashtrays.
Anyone with questions about the amended smoking ordinance or its enforcement may contact the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department's Division of Environmental Health at (859) 231-9791.
