Investigators said they began receiving several calls from scam victims earlier this month, according to a news release.
The victims told police they had responded to one of two advertisements promoting season tickets for UK basketball. One of the ads was placed in the Herald-Leader and the other on the Web site Craigslist.
Police said the victims had responded to the the ads as far back as May.
Mattingly would meet with the victims and receive a down payment for the tickets. The remainder was supposed to be due when they received the tickets, police said.
Mattingly was arrested in Flagler County, Fla. He also was charged with probation violation. Police did not say why Mattingly was in Florida.
