A Lexington man charged with assaulting, raping and sexually abusing a 2-year-old girl pleaded not guilty to charges in Fayette District Court Wednesday.
At 9:32 p.m. Tuesday, Lexington police were called to the emergency room at St. Joseph East Hospital about a 2-year-old girl who had multiple injuries and was unresponsive. The the girl's father's roommate, Brian M. Crabtree, 18, of Lexington, was later charged with first-degree assault, first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse, police Lt. John Gensheimer said.

Gensheimer said he was prohibited from revealing the severity of the girl's injuries because of privacy laws.
Crabtree is scheduled to return to court at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 5 for a preliminary hearing.
He was being held Wednesday in the Fayette County Detention Center on a $22,500 cash bond.
