Woman hurt in crash on UK campus

Police are investigating a car crash early Tuesday at the University of Kentucky Student Center.

The wreck occurred at 2:18 a.m. at the intersection of the Avenue of Champions and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

A woman reportedly was southbound on Martin Luther King Boulevard. Her vehicle failed to turn, struck a curb, went through the bushes and landed in the parking lot. The vehicle then struck a pole supporting an awning of the old Student Center, but it did not cause any structural damage, UK Police Maj. Joe Monroe said.

A UK police officer who had stopped another vehicle for a traffic violation nearby witnessed the crash, Monroe said.

Nicole Marie Baird, 22, was taken to the University of Kentucky hospital and then booked into the Fayette County jail.

She was charged with aggravated drunken driving and failure to produce insurance.
