Wesner, 30, has been charged with killing his girlfriend's daughter, Jessica Nolan. He pleaded not guilty.
Jessica died Nov. 25 at University of Kentucky Medical Center, according to the Fayette County Coroner's Office. Police had been called to 515 Michigan Avenue about 10:45 a.m. that day about an unresponsive child and found her with a severe head injury.
Lexington police Lt. John Gensheimer said Wesner was the only person home with Jessica on Nov. 25, the same day the child was injured. He said he thinks the child's mother returned home after Jessica was injured, but Gensheimer said he couldn't say who called police.
